In almost all of the games, the host is a man called "Calypso" in the series' fourth installment, perennial contestant Sweet Tooth briefly takes over. The last driver alive is the winner.Īlthough each individual game features its own storyline, they all revolve around the eponymous "Twisted Metal": a vehicular combat tournament hosted once a year. A variety of weapons and upgrades are obtainable by pick-ups scattered throughout the stage. Players choose a vehicle, and an arena-or a series of arenas in the story mode-to engage in battle with opposing drivers.

Trust me, it's not pretty. In concept, Twisted Metal is a demolition derby that emphasizes the usage of ballistic projectiles, machine guns, mines, and other types of weapons (up to and including satellite-based weapons and nuclear weapons). I'm not going to mention what happens whenever I hear an ice cream truck. I can't look at a yellow front loader whenever I pass a construction site without sobbing uncontrollably. The phrase "Axel power!" haunts my nightmares and "Yee-ha!" gives me PTSD. Sure, they're a little stronger, but it still doesn't have anything on Shadow firing off eight specials in your direction in the span of 15 seconds as you're trying to get close enough to him to shoot. At least you wouldn't be completely boned if you have nothing but machine guns at your disposal. It's not OP and helps level the playing field a little bit.

Sarcasm aside, I do think the Mega Machine Guns cheat should be allowed, at least.

Slam spams freeze shots at you six times, back to back, while Specter fires off a volley of specials that only target you regardless of how many opponents are closer than you? That's totally 100% fair and not in any way aggravating or unbalanced in the slightest! Even better when you're tapped out on all weapons because the AI keeps picking them up so you can't! What's not to love!?
